Pin It To Win It

Those of you that know me, know that I am a little obsessed with Pinterest. I mean, this will be my third blog I’ve written about it (check out blog 1 and blog 2)! Why so obsessed you ask? There are a lot of reasons – it allows you to bookmark pretty much anything you like in one place, you can be inspired by millions of people from all over the world, and my marketing geeky-ness gets so excited when finding things like the image below.

This platform is a marketers dream – reached over 10 million users faster than any other social media site in history, users average 98 minutes a month on the site and it is second highest referring social media site behind Facebook to marketers websites (beating out Twitter, YouTube and Google+). So you want to get in on the fun? Our biggest advice from the EXIT team is to stay authentic to your brand. You want the consumer to understand your Why and be inspired by your ideas. By staying true to that, consumers will be pinning away on your boards. A great example of a big brand using Pinterest is Pottery Barn. When you look through the 47 boards and over 2,000 pins, less than half of them are Pottery Barn products. These boards inspire me to make the perfect cocktail for Valentine’s Day or hang photos a certain way in my hallway and in the back of my mind I remember that Pottery Barn inspired me to do this. So when I want to go buy one of those glasses for the drink or a frame for the hallway I will check them out first. And at the end of the day, isn’t that what we all want?

I encourage you to think creatively about how to use Pinterest to inspire your customers. And if you want to grab a cup of coffee and talk about some ideas I would love to share my obsession with anyone who will listen!
